It’s new music Friday! Today, indie surfers Dutch Criminal Record share their brand new track, ‘Feel Good’. Not to be blindingly obvious, but this release does radiate those good feelings, so I guess the band achieved what they set out to do. Good work, lads.
‘Feel Good’ follows the band’s lockdown cover of indie classic ‘This Charming Man’. This track emerged after an afternoon of listening to ‘Rip It Up’ by Orange Juice, and this is highly evident. The bass line is particularly triumphant, oozing every bit of vitamin C classic Orange Juice tracks provide. ‘Feel Good’ uses a similar framework to ‘Rip It Up’, with energising guitar sequences and a funky, consistent bassline, though this is produced by a bass guitar rather than a synth.
The sentiments explored in the track itself are very coming of age, which suits Dutch Criminal Record’s aesthetic very well, with the chorus repeating the mantras “let’s feel good while we’re young” and “I could set you free.”
In an interview with FUZZY Magazine, DCR stated that “We want people to feel better after listening to our music than how they were feeling before it, be that because they’ve listened to it on a road trip with mates, whilst doing the washing up, or they just had a bad day.”
‘Feel Good’ is the perfect antidote to the scorching heat. I shy away from labelling songs as having a "summer sound", because what does that even mean? That being said, this perfectly fits that category.
